hey, the search has been annoying me for the last lil while cause I can’t use the results.
it searches but then when I click on the results it brings up errors.
a lil useless. -
Sorry for the delayed response. I thought I had responsed, but I guess I didn’t. So I do apologize on that. I haven’t found anything to be the matter with the search. Have you tried it again recently? Oh, and can you tell me the error that it brings up when you try the search? It works just perfectly for me so I’m not sure what kind of error you are getting. I’m sorry for the inconvience

okay I'll walk you through...
I just checked and I’m still getting the error.
so I type in… “jordan” and I get this page. http://findquotations.com/home/search?search=jordan
all is fine so far.
However, when I try to actually click on one of these authors … “Robert Jordan” say, I get an error in a red box that says “Unable to find the user by that name, please check our directory”
I notice that whenever the mouse hovers over a name, a box with two options “Send Message” and “View Details” pops up, much as it would do if you did the same on storywrite. (obviously I can’t send a message lol)
My guess is that Kevin used the same code for here as he did for storywrite when it came to the search field. However the sources of the quotations aren’t defined the same as authors would be.
I tried the word “time” which brought up a catagory match and that works fine, it’s just the author search that seems to have this problem. -

Strange...
Alright, I figured out what the problem is. I haven’t ever noticed this before, but I’ll explain what the problem is. When you type in a name in the bar, don’t click enter. It will automatically bring up a list of the author’s there. When you click on Robert Jordan from that list, it takes you to:
http://findquotations.com/quote/by/Robert_Jordan
But when you click enter and it takes you to the search page, it will take you to:
http://findquotations.com/user/show/Robert%20Jordan
The first one is all the quotes by Robert Jordan. The second one you will see “user/show/” in the address. This means it is trying to take you to a username of Robert Jordan which no member on this site has that name.
For another example… If you type in Sharcu in the box, but don’t click enter… it will take you to the page with all of my quotes:
http://findquotations.com/quote/by/Sharcu
But if you click enter, it will take you to my username’s page which is:
http://findquotations.com/user/show/Sharcu
Does that make sense what you are doing? So don’t press enter in the box. I’ll contact Kevin and see if I can get the coding fixed around on that page so it won’t happen.
If you have any questions about what I’m talking about, just ask.

okay I get it now.
heh, I tend to enter things in pretty quickly…so usually when I enter something in I’d press enter before anything had a chance to show up.
okay this makes sense now that I know. It’s not a feature that I or many people in the social design curcuit would be used to but of course that’s true for much of the site here.
